Father Eulogy

Writing a Father Eulogy

Writing a father eulogy can be one of the most difficult eulogies to write.  And the hard part of it all is that one must create it in a very short amount of time… and during this short amount of time, things can be very sad and stressful.

A Father Eulogy Can be a Rewarding Experience

Writing a Father Eulogy is One of the Hardest Things You'll Ever Do

Writing a Father Eulogy is One of the Hardest Things You'll Ever Do

A father is a special man, and all of us have varying relationships with our fathers. You see – as a man a father can be both a leader and role model and also a man whom many individuals have great conflict and differences with.  This can make writing a father eulogy both challenging and difficult.  However, if you write your father eulogy in the correct fashion, it can be the most rewarding and powerful of all eulogies.

Examine Other Father Eulogies

I encourage you to look around at father eulogies online and in books at bookstores or your local library.  When you read these eulogies, pay close attention to their structure and format. Examine how the eulogies begin and the course that the writer has chosen to take.

When writing your father eulogy, consider asking yourself these questions:

  • Did you have any struggles with your father? If so, how did they work to teach you things and enhance the relationship between you two?
  • How did you discover your dad’s qualities? What actions did he take to show you these qualities?
  • What things did your father do for you as a child that changed the way you view the world?
  • What were the philosophies that your father seemed to live by? What were his life-rules and how did they affect the world around them?
  • Is there anything humorous about your father that you can paint in a colorful and appropriate light?

Take Your Time to Write Your Eulogy

These are just a few ideas. Writing a father eulogy is probably the most difficult eulogy that one can write. I highly recommend doing your research and allowing time to research and then craft the eulogy. Brainstorm and make a list of things to include, and then write the eulogy. The research / brainstorming should be about 60%. Once complete, the writing becomes much easier.  Good luck.
